    Screensaver, Yes or No

I have had LCD monitors for a number of years and have not used a screensaver and have had no problems with image burns. I did use screensavers on Crt monitors.

That being said I just purchased a 27 inch Asus MX279 monitor and they are pushing use of screensaver to prevent image burn. Any opinions/advice on this.

    I'd go with "Yes".

LCDs aren't nearly as prone to image burn, but it hasn't been completely eliminated. They're more prone to image persistence, which looks like image burn but isn't permanent. If you don't like screensavers, you can always set the monitor to switch to standby.

Well if it's not permanent why would I need either. Reason I ask is that we have a driveway camera that allows me to see customers pulling in and obviously the camera is of no use when screensaver is on.

It's a personal decision, not a big deal but I was curious as to the Asus warning. If I remember correctly (been a few years) one of the pro points to get an LCD monitor was the lack of burn image.

Of course it's your choice; 'twas ever thus. Most people have an LCD monitor these days and never have a problem, so go for it.

I almost can't remember the last time I had a screen saver active.

That's probably because the default ones that come with Windows suck so badly.
The free 3rd party ones are usually associated with so much junk, making it not even worth thinking about downloading one.

I hope you kick it hard where it hurts!

The reason old style monitors suffered screenburn was solely down to the technology available at the time, billions of electrons being being fired to the screen in the same place! Modern LCD panels use a totally different method.

ETA: I use screensavers for entertainment purposes only!

Advertising purposes, like the way they offer free Desktop wallpaper downloads on their product page for it?

Actually, I like screensavers. I can watch 'em for hours...
