Question Windows Explorer display - setting default for display?

When Windows Explorer is displaying the contents of a Folder, I have an option to display the information as icons, tiles, list, content details, etc. I would like to know if there is any way to set a default for this display so that it always comes up in the "Details" display mode? It seems that the default for a new folder is always "Large Icons" and I would like to change this. Maybe there is something in the Registry that I can change, or some other way to set a different default. Any insight or relevant suggestions that anyone would care to provide will be greatly appreciated.

    Ron,

    Have you tried the following:
    Open Windows Explorer
Select the View you want (ie. details)
Click on Tools in the menu
Click on Folder Options in the next menu
    Click on View tab
    Click on Apply to Folders
Click on Apply, then click on OK
    Close Windows Explorer
Re-open Windows Explorer, and slect a folder in the left panel

Now all folders should open with the default view you originally set (ie. details)

If you are on win 7 ( you didn't specify ), there is an icon at the top>right that has a drop down list of options also. But akjudge has the best option for what you asked for.

Sorry folks, I forgot to tell you that it is Windows 8.1.

akjudge, when I open Windows Explorer, I do not see a "Tools" item in the menu. All I see are File, Home, Share and View above the ribbon. Is there something else I should be doing?

View, Options (far right on ribbon), Change folder and search options, View tab, Apply to Folders.

BruceR, I followed your instructions, but I still cannot see something that lets me se "Details" as the default view whenever a folder is opened. I am I still missing something?

Set View, Details (towards the left of the ribbon) first, before using that sequence to apply to all folders. (I just gave the Windows 8.1 equivalent of Tools, which you didn't find.)
