    Well, this should come as no surprise. It's amazing that they have supposedly been doing this for 20 years.

    i ahve seen that in security forums

    but nobody can tell me how firmware on a hd controller can export data at all

    without something in the pc that controller cant do diddly

    maybe it could tap out morse code by jiggling the heads and some super sensitive mike could pick up the noise

    but this is not practical at all unless they also built in a radio transmitter with the controller firmware

    If a rootkit can hide in an MBR the hdd firmware should be able to hide stuff even better.

    The firmware in the HD controller installs other software that execute on the PC. I think Steve Gibson does a good job of explaining the process in this video (Security Now - episode 495):
