Networking Icon - What Is It?

Well as the title states what is the Win 8 networking icon a picture of? It looks like a microphone on the side of a monitor but surely not.......

    Alan,

It's a picture of a computer screen and a RJ-45 plug on the end of a cable (how you attach your network) meaning you're attached to your network by a cable vs the bar graph showing you are attached wirelessly. HTH

The symbol is that of an antenna next to your computer and is what you would normally use to wirelessly connect your computer to the SSID that the router is broadcasting or to a Hotspot.

As yours is showing a blank screen would suggest that your wireless adapter is either disabled, you don't have wireless capability or your wireless adapter doesn't have any drivers installed for it - otherwise it would show as a wedge of bars, up to 5 to denote the strength of signal between the router and the computer. http://www.7tutorials.com/how-connec...orks-windows-8

You don't learn if you don't ask - and never be afraid to ask - although it's never looked like a lollipop to me in Win 7
