This is the reason I will never buy a Lenovo.

I never buy any computer made in China if I can help it. I've talked several of my acquaintances/friends out of buying Lenovo computers/laptops too. My suspicion was always there and this story confirms it. Of course they install spyware on your system.

I do know Google isn't innocent either. I'm sure Microsoft could be doing some spying too, but I don't think they are to the point that either Google or Lenovo is.

I don't buy Lenovo for two reasons:

    1. I worked on some Thinkpads when they were IBM. The Thinkpad 760 was a piece of junk. The Thinkpad 380 was a decent computer, but it wasn't easy to work on like the 760.

    2. I can't bring myself to buy a computer from a repressive country like China, especially when that computer used to be IBM, at one time the "Americana" of computers.

Just a point that seems to have escaped some people - even if your PC was put together by Joe Smith Ltd down the road, most of the bits will have been made in China.

True Calimanco; Taiwan as well (where my ASUS is built). I've not seen any pop-ups yet though thank God.

Does that mean that you retract or uphold your initial condemnation of buying any computer made in China... unless it's a PC assembled in the US (but made of parts fabricated in China?). Confused...

(Sorry but, with the greatest respect to everyone, I agree with Calimanco... I'm not sure that anyone understands where, in a global economy, your 'American' PC/laptop is most likely [partially or fully] assembled in [or made operational in).

(... but more than happy for you to inform us of totally US-based mainstream fabricators/assemblers of retail PCs and/or laptops.)

Don't consider Taiwan as being part of China Rick. China might, but I don't.

OK Rick; yes, PCs are not fabricated here anymore unfortunately. Maybe one day they will be again.
