Why do I get a subscription ads after clicking to read forum posts from paid Windows Secrets?

I have a life-time subscription to Windows Secrets newsletter. I open the newsletter in my email client and then click the link to read the newsletter in Firefox. I read a lot of the forum posts (each in a new tab) and every one of the new pages comes with an ad to subscribe to the newsletter. The ads take up almost the entire screen of my laptop, and I have to close each one before I can read the post.

Is there any way to stop this happening? Is it a setting or add-on in Firefox that I have set incorrectly? Is it because I choose to read the newsletter in Firefox rather than in my email client?

    TIA.

You may have to install plugin Ad-Block Plus and its additional helpers.

Thank you for your quick reply. I already have "Adblock Plus" installed. I don't know about any "additonal helpers". All the options are checked except 'Disable everywhere'. I will try checking that and see what happens. I'll post whether that works.

As a side question, why would I be getting the ad in the first place, if I have a paid subscription to Windows Secrets?

I check "Disable everywhere and it makes no difference: still getting the subscribe ad on every forum page. Any other suggestions?

When you check "Disable Everywhere" it is tell AdBlock to "disable" its blocking everywhere.
You want to uncheck everything to have AdBlock block the most adds.
I suggest that you get this AdBlock helper too: https://adblockplus.org/en/elemhidehelper
Then be sure to read its instructions to get the most out of it.

As to why us paid subscribers get the adds, I suspect that someone has decided that we pay for only part of the news letter and that the writers are making more than us readers think they are worth. ;-)

I get the one ad to subscribe. It must not be flagged as an ad by ABP. If you right click on the image you can block it in ABP.

    cheers, Paul

RussB, thanks for the link! https://adblockplus.org/en/elemhidehelper
However, that site keeps generating an error every time I try to install this XPI

This sounds just like Cable TV. You pay for Cable TV, and they still make you watch Commercials!

It would be so wonderful to have something like Adblock Plus for TV!

    Try this: https://adblockplus.org/en/

Else try going to your browser's add-on page or area and search for it.
