Picture This! (Outlook 2000)

I'd like to import the gif picture contained in the attached Outlook Express file into Outlook 2000 but if I open Fw_ Re_.eml, select and copy the picture and try to paste it into an Outlook 2000 message, it just doesn't work.
How can I do it?

I think you need to save the item to disk, then, in the message, use the Insert Menu | Item feature. I suspect you need rich text for HTML format if you want this to display in the body.

btw - if your on an Exchange system, and want to send this outside the system, the message will probably be converted to plain text and the picture turned into an attachment. That's the default for outbound mail and most admins. leave it.

How do I save it to disk? If I right-click the picture, there's no "Save" option in the context menu.
And if I select the "Save" option of the File menu command in Outlook Express, it saves all of the message, not just the picture.

OK. I moved your attachment to a secure PC and took a look at it. Turns out it's html code. You'll have to set up OL to use html as the mail format (Tools, Options, Mail Format Tab) or set the format for an individual email to html. I've copied the code out for you below. You can copy and paste it. Take out the commment mark ( ' ) at the beginning of the line.

Remember a lot of sites block or convert html email. Some folks may not see the object or animation.

'<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
'<HTML><HEAD>
'<META content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" http-equiv=Content-Type>
'<META content="MSHTML 5.00.3314.2100" name=GENERATOR>
'<STYLE></STYLE>
'</HEAD>
'<BODY bgColor=#ffffff>
'<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT></DIV>
'<DIV align=center></DIV>
'<DIV align=left>
'<DIV align=left>*</DIV></DIV></BODY></HTML>

I think that once you have set your format to html, you open a new mail item, then right click in the body and choose "source" from the context menu to see the source code. You should see some default tags. It may be as simple as replacing the code that's in there with this new code block. But I'm not sure because I don't do much in html.

I think "View Source" is read-only; I haven't been able to edit HTML that way. OE is better to author HTML messages. However, you can "cheat" HTML into an OL message by saving it in a temp.htm file on your desktop, positioning your insertion point in the message, using Insert File, dropping down the Insert button and choosing Insert as Text. Maybe it's good that they don't make it easy; I prefer to get text. <img src=/S/wink.gif border=0 alt=wink width=15 height=15>
