    Thumbs up Win10 Footprint Shrinks

Thought y'all might find this interesting; hope you do...

I was talking w/ my cousin earlier. He does a lot of work w/ 'languages' & fonts. He had asked if I'd noticed anything different regarding fonts available on 10041? He said, "We made some significant changes". Then, went on to say, "I made changes that reduce the Windows desktop footprint for typical North American, South American or European Users who use only languages written in Latin, Cyrillic or Greek scripts, by 330MB, by moving fonts for other languages used (ie. Chinese, Tamil...) into optional packages."

Oh, he's part of the Windows 10 Build Team in Redmond.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Build 10041 ISO is significantly smaller than the Build 9926 ISO

Presumably your cousin has read, and maybe even used or modified, the 2010 blog post which enabled Windows 7 users to use a BATch file to copy unwanted 'non-Latin' fonts out of C:\Windows\Fonts to a different folder?

    I know I did!

I really don't know. Can't recall it being mentioned in any of our conversations; good change though & interesting though on your part.

I know, aside from anything else he does, he works a lot w/ languages in computers. takes him to other countries, too. Working w/ the people, languages, computers. He is part of the Win10 Build Team & worked w/ the Win8 Build Team, as well. He's based @ the Redmond Campus.

We only grab moments lately... he's a wee bit busy these days w/ something or other.

    Cheers,
    Drew
