554 errors are somewhat generic. Can you provide any more details of the error?
    Have you asked TalkTalk?

hi Paul and thank you for your interest in my problem

as far as i can see , i cannot provide any more details about the error notice than i have previously provided

i am unable to send emails ( and also reply ) from WLM2012

as you are aware i have posted at MS and received the following reply

    Hi,

I can understand how frustrating it can be when things don’t work as expected. I'd be glad to help you.

The Error 0x800CCC6F can be broken down to 2 causes:
Incorrect POP settings (usually the SSL option for SMTP) – check with provider if it is required or not.
Firewall blocking ports – could be 3rd party since Windows Firewall generally allows this port through, unless specifically told not to do so.
We suggest to re-establish your email account to your mail client by referring to the article below:

How do I add an account to Windows Live Mail?

Hope this helps. Post back with the results so that we can assist you further.

i rechecked my POP settings as per my original post , seem accurate

also disabled firewall (MS Defender only in use ) and tried again

i uninstalled WLM2012 and re installed it and also deleted my *******@ukgateway.net account and ( ? ) re- registered it

at each stage i tried ......no success !!

meanwhile i spotted this on TalkTalk (TT) website re spamming

    http://help2.talktalk.co.uk/problems...-email-account

as far as asking TT , you are joking !!! Their website is a nightmare and it appears the only way to "Talk " to them is via a premium phone line

i have never found them much use ( except , to be fair , giving me free email !! )

i have posted ( Rule 14 breach again ? ) this problem on their community forum but no response so far

sorry i havnt been able to provide any more details; but just one new Q ?

what do you make of the "server response " Server Response: 554 out.ipsmtp2nec.opaltelecom.net ?

i see on the net some suggestions that this is an issue

presuming it is a WLM/TT problem ( and not this PC) i guess i could resolve the issue by abandoning ******@ukgateway.net as my email address and use my yahoo /gmail/hot mail but i would need to inform about 150 contacts

where do you suggest we go from here ?

    regards Bernard

You are correct, the error message is from a TalkTalk server, but it may be because you have an incorrect setting in WLM.
You could test the connection with a test tool to see if the issue is the server or WLM.

just to say thank you for your interest and support as i now have WLM sending emails

i did not use the links re incorrect settings ( never got round to it ) but did contact my ISP ( TalkTalk (TT) ) at last , they suggested various tricks eg clearing cache and history from my browser ( chrome ) which i did and using IE ( which i didn't )

i tried to keep a check as to when it started working but cannot honestly link it to one episode

Clearing your browser cache apparently fixed their email server problem.

it now seems that it was a TT (ISP) problem all along
