    Disable Attachments (Outlook 2002)

I am fed up with having to worry about attachments, now and then one gets through with a virus, no matter how up to date your virus dat files are.. I want to disable all attachments in my incoming email box, Tell me that this can be done? I have searched MS Knowledge base and come up empty short of creating a rule, however the only rule would be to delete messages with attachments, I'd like to just turn off attachments so that I can at least view the message and respond.

unfortunately, you can't filter mail and delete attachments before they arrive. you can use exlife <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.ornic.com>http://www.ornic.com</A> to delete attachments after they arrive. also - WYB <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.grinningshark.com>http://www.grinningshark.com</A> or zone alarm will block, delete or disable attachments.

however - outlook 2002 has email security that blocks access to dangerous attachments and none should get through. also, with macro security set to high in word and excel, any macro viruses which might come in on those files would not be activated.

In all honestly, when using either OL2000-SP2 or OL2002 with the default out of the box security, viruses are not a big concern.

With a GOOD AV you will not have much of a problem. You just need to make sure that your dat files are up to date. Some virus's well come in through the use of HTML and RTF type emails. So if you want TOTAL protection you will need to turn off the computer. Do not take this statement as being rude, it is just the fact, for TOTAL protection.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Not with the "HELL" security features in Outlook they don't get in RTF or HTML. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

BTW - Outlook 2002 SP1 has the ability to not render HTML or RTF - it displays all messages in plain text.
