Advanced forum search may be broken

Fyi. Before posting a new thread in the IE forum a few minutes ago, I was surprised to get no result in 'titles only' for "scrollbar", so I tried "explorer", which litters the thread titles. Two results from 2000 & 2001.

I just tried searching for 'forum' and got a lot of hits including this one. So I tried 'scrollbar' and also got lots of hits, including your one on the scrollbar in IE11. I had to sort by date descending though (relevance seems not particularly useful...)

I think he's talking about the advanced search, in the IE forum only...

    Advanced Search.jpg

I ran it in all forums and got 14 results, one was in the IE forum (which was the OP's post from today).

There are multiple results for "scroll bar".

    It seems to be working.

I was searching using advanced (you can't sort in 'normal' search). It was as you say when searched from the IE forum - but can you actually limit it to one forum?

You can also use a normal search engine query and specify the site, like this for instance: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=%22scrollb...om%2Fforums%2F

I get 214 threads on advanced search of IE forum for "explorer" in title.

Only yours with "scrollbar", but another four with "scroll bar".

And a few results with "explore", "exploror", etc.

Misspellings in titles are a nuisance.

Thanks JW, I hadn't spotted that link before. Perhaps it would be better on the advanced search page rather than on a different part of the page...

SOLVED. My problem was one setting I'm not familiar with [I adminned a vB for a decade], which is "Search by Prefix:"--after my first non-result, I changed it to "(any prefix)" thinking that would be the loosest--ie catch most results. Stupidly I did not try "(no prefix)", which solved it--and I see "(any thread)" is even a little better.

Suggestion for idiot-proofing: Since the prefix feature seems not to have been used in years, why not get rid of it out of the advanced search furniture.

    That's right.

Yes, that's always been possible since at least vB4 over a decade ago--option is in general advanced search too, not only forum-specific search [although they seem to be the same advanced search].

Yeah, I get 211 results now with "(no prefix)", and 214 with "(any thread)".
