    Office 2013 path

I recently did a default installation of Office 2013 (32 bit) on Win7 and I notice that the path is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15. I have another installation of Office 2013 on Win 8.1 with the same path.

    I looked at a friend's installation of Office 2013, and the folder is C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\

Is there an explanation for the (odd) new folder? I thought perhaps that I had installed the 64 bit version, but I verified that it's the 32 bit.

Don't have the Root subFolder on mine. Your friend has the 32-bit version of Office on his 64-bit version of Windows. The 64-bit version won't install on 32-bit Windows. I have the 64-bit version.

The Folder location of Program Files is for either 32-bit or 64-bit but the 64-bit has the additional Program Files (x86) for installing 32-bit versions of programs on 64-bit Windows.

I have 64 bit Windows, and I have the folder Program Files (x86). But 32 bit Office installed under Program Files.

But 32 bit Office installed under Program Files.
It shouldn't have unless a Custom install was done and the location changed during the install. The default is to install 32-bit programs in C:\Program Files (x86) on 64-bit versions of Windows.

Open Word, click File, click Account, under Product Information click ?About Word. It will show which version is installed.

I checked the version of Office, and it's 32 bit. I definitely did not change the location during installation. I didn't pay any attention to the location when I installed. I would not have selected something with a folder called \root\ in the path.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15 is the correct install path for an Office 2013 click-to-run installation. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\office15 is the path for an Office 2013 MSI based installation.

This is regardless of the bittedness of Office and OS.

Thank you very much. I wasn't aware of Click to Run and have now read the info at the MS website. For others who might be interested:
