How to telnet onto a Linux box?

HI, I am new to Linux, and have just installed Redhat. I have heard that I should be able to telnet onto my Linux box from Win98. I have tried telnet, but failed to get a connection.
However, I am able to Ping the Linux box.

Any ideas on how to connect to Linux please??? cheers...

Have you got your firewall configured to accept telnet requests? Also, have you configured your linux box to accept a telnet session?

I'm also new to Linux (RedHat also)... but I've yet to try with any real 'tinkering'. It's mainly a 'surfing' platform for me at the moment, and a game platform for my girlfriend (she love's the various tile games included).

When you configured telnet, did you configure SSH?? Telnet is on port 23, SSH is on port 22. This along with the first reply may be the issue
