My PC will not open anything to do with the control panel/built in apps.
Anything I try to open with the explorer comes up with the error message "This file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action". For example, if I try to search for "PC Info", it will not open and give me that error message. I have tried literally everything to solve this, and it still wont work. Please help!
I am on Windows 8.1, and the file types are '.settingcontent-ms' by the way.

This happened to me sometime back; I had a corrupted Explorer.exe. Also, when you move mouse to the far right, does the normal W8 settings menu appear? The only way I was able to fix a corrupt Explorer.exe was to reinstall W8. After the 2nd time, I had a local computer store convert laptop from 8 to 7.
I hope others here can help you avoid what I had to do"Take care of thy backups and thy restores shall take care of thee." Ben Franklin revisited.

From an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt, run SFC /SCANNOW and see if it will fix it.
