    Learning curve (and connections) for Apple vs. my older familiar Windows OS

    I'm an older retired guy who has a limited understand of this new computer world.

    Yesterday my older HP desktop with XP on it bit the dust,....multiple blue screens with different references. A friend could not even wipe it clean, and reinstall
    a new XP package on it with some more errors, so I just gave up on it.

    I have a nice new (bought new a few years ago) Imac desktop with Snow Leopard on it. I have not used this computer much at all, as I was just unfamiliar with Apple vs Windows. Now I am seriously thinking about getting familiar with Apple.

    I have a nice old HP6p Laserjet printer that I use to run off of my WinXP desktop computer. But that computer gave up yesterday.
    My question(s):

    1) Could I get my older HP6p printer to work with my Imac?

    2) Would this set-up be a bit complicated for a relative novice computer person?

    3) Could I get my old Visioneer 5800 scanner to work with the Imac?

    4) Would that involve any of your software?

    5) Might it just be more simply for me to transfer items I want printed from my Imac to a thumbdrive and then put them into an cheap aux XP computer that I would connect to the older printer and scanner of mine??

    PS: I will still have my newer Windows7 laptop as well, but as I understand it my older printer and scanner will NOT work with the Win7

    The HP6p will work with any computer, Win7 or Mac - seems you already know that from this post.

    According to Visioneer your scanner will work happily with Windows 7. I can't find any reference to it working with a Mac, but you could just plug it in and see.

    I just happened to have found the original installation disc that came with that scanner. I'm going to give it a try and several different computer of mine and see how it works. I've been told that the software on that original disc may be 'too old' to include stuff for the newer operating systems, or the Mac ??
