Customizing the Quick Access Toolbar (2007)

    Hi -

I recently installed Adobe Acrobat Pro DC from Adobe's Creative Cloud. As a result, a new menu now appears in Microsoft Word (2007, on a PC), called Acrobat; see the screenshot.

Anyone know how to remove this?

    Thanks a lot!

This works for me (Acrobat 11, Word 2010), and presumably this will work for you.

Go to the Orb > Options > Customize Ribbon.

In the right column, find the check box next to Acrobat and uncheck.

Does that do it for you? Close Word and reopen and make sure it's still gone.

P.S. If you want to remove Acrobat altogether from Word (which I wouldn't if I were you), can you re-install, use custom install, and tell it not to include Word integration? (Never used Acrobat DC myself.)

There's no Customise Ribbon command in 2007. I think the way you'd do it is click the Orb, then Word Options, then Add-Ins.

    Tonyl,

You're right. One turns the Developer tab on and off from a different place in 2007. Bummer. So I guess Jon5 is stuck with the option of removing Acrobat from Word entirely. This isn't completely awful as you can save as a pdf in 2007 without Acrobat.

Jon5, may I ask why you want to remove the Acrobat tab in the first place?

    Thanks, guys.

Unfortunately, while I can remove individual items from the Acrobat menu, I can't seem to remove the menu itself; see below:

    Untitled.png

The solution, as I learned after a call with Adobe tech support, is to open the following file

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat DC\Setup Files\{AC76BA86-1033-FFFF-7760-0C0F074E4100}\AcroPro.msi

Modify installation, then uncheck the Acrobat PDF Maker stuff

Unfortunately, there’s no option from within Acrobat to disable this plug-in.

    Thanks again.

This is really about customizing the Ribbon rather than the QAT. Both can be customized in Word 2007, but the Ribbon is not easy.

As was pointed out, this requires either disabling / uninstalling the Adobe Add-In or modifying it somehow.

For anyone who came across this in a web search, here is a page that may help with either.
Modifying the Ribbon and QAT in Microsoft Word

You can find more about the Developer Tab and how to turn it on in Word 2007 on this page.
