Can't add Google as search provider to IE; it's not offered

Started IE11, did Tools -> Manage Add-ons -> Search providers -> Find more search providers
    This takes you to www.iegallery.com/addons.

Google is NOT offered as a search provider. So how can I get Google to be my search provider?

This behavior happens with IE9 and IE11.

Go to www.google.com, click the cube at top right with the 9 squares, click Google Search and you should get a blue bar at the top offering to set it as default.

This was caused by one of May's Windows Updates.

Go to Installed Updates and in the top right search box enter KB3038314 and when it finds it, right click on it and select Uninstall and when you've added Google, you can reinstall the update if it is presented again.

It may have been superseded or pulled as I no longer have it on mine, although I ran Disk Cleanup as an admin after this month's updates which could have removed it.

Thanks for the suggestions. Neither was successful.

The "cube with 9 squares" offers Google but all that does is launch www.google.com. There's nothing that offers to make Google the default search engine.

Removing patch KB3038314 did not help. It uninstalled without complaint. The Google search engine is still not offered.

If you go directly to www.iegallery.com/addons, the Google Search icon is missing. This seems to be a bug at the website and not so much in the IE sitting on my system.

Is there a way to manually add "Google search", such as via registry tweaks?

I see what you mean - Google is no longer an option to choose.

Previously with 8314 installed, you had the Google option but the select button was dead - sorry I misunderstood your problem.

I already have Google as an alternative search provider and having reset IE 10 this morning, it's still there.

What does this button do for you http://www.google.co.uk/homepage/search/sp-ie10.html

The URL worked like a charm, with a big blue button/link to add Google as the default search engine in IE. A simpler form is
    https://www.google.com/homepage/search.

    Many thanks. Problem solved.
