Google use of server in Poland

Does anyone know why Google uses a server in Poland? Both my Gmail & calender web pages are (apparently) hosted in Poland according to the extension "IP Whois & Flags Chrome & Websites Rating"

Hiya Fred, what's the actual IP# that you're seeing?

Maybe it's some dastardly plan to keep your data secure from snooping from NSA?

Yes, Google DNS is sending you to their caching servers in PL, it might be a one-off, due to some temporary routing issue close to you, it might be normal - keep an eye on it over the next few weeks.

I was wondering if it was on purpose to avoid my data wandering through the USA.
Also was wondering if somehow my data is hijacked.
Full virus-etc. scan with my onboard AVG, with malwarebytes and with the ESET free standalone scanner shows nothing.

Also an interesting answer posted to another site where I queried:

"Jakub Wawszczyk, Web dev. Food addict. Alcohol fanatic... (more)

Lets assume that my knowledge of salaries, IT infrastructure, CS graduates and business, in a country that I have emigrated from 8 years ago, is sufficient to answer your question:

    - Low costs of developing a data centre
    - Low costs of running a data centre
    - knowledgable staff at 1/5 the salary of Western Europe markets
    - Emerging market in eastern Europe, accounting for about 20% of data centres in that part of the world (IBM also has a data centre in Poland)
    - strategic location for data access across Europe
    - Google loves vodka."

    Probably the latter
