    Remembering the '50s

Some of us are old enough to remember this period.
(they say, however, if you remember the '60s, you didn't live then...)

    1950s

I remember most of them, but I don't think that Flip Wilson came out until the '60s.

And Burton and Taylor as an item were in the 60s as well.

I thought the quote was: if you remember the 60s you weren't there. I do, and I was!

I took it that the remark on the 60's was that everyone in that time frame was 'brain dead'. I never inhaled.

Not so much brain dead as 'far out man'...

That was a long time not to breathe...

I remember the beginning of B&W-only TV in the '50s with round corners and controls for vertical and horizontal alignment if the antenna was still standing on the roof and pointed in the right direction. And as to the '60s, I apparently missed them since I remember those too!

Having been born in the late 40's I can remember the 50's very well. I remember when 45 RPM records first came out and my father got an RCA Victor 45 record changer and plugged it into the big console radio. I remember the hits of Tony Bennett, Doris Day, Nat King Cole, Perry Como, Rosemary Clooney, Teresa Brewer, etc. when they first came out. On TV there was Roy Rogers, The Cisco Kid, Superman, 77 Sunset Strip, Maverick, The Mickey Mouse Club, and too many more to list. I was a child in the 50's, a teenager in the 60's, a young adult in the 70's. It was a near ideal time to grow up.

I didn't even recognise him when I Googled, I wonder if the program came over this side of the pond...

I don't remember it either. A similar show - Maverick, had already started in 1957 and was very popular so it probably didn't do well. Also, there were lots of other popular shows like Bonanza, Hawiian Eye, Surfside 6, Cheyenne, etc. Some of these went into the 60's but started in the late 50's. Can't say whether shows back then made it over the pond.

Bonanza and Maverick certainly did, I'm pretty sure Cheyenne did as I remember Clint Walker as the lead. I don't remember the other two though.

Or Yancey Derringer (sorry David )
