    Pop vs IMAP

Been using POP3 forever and keep asking my isp optimum when they are going to implement secure handshakes. The answer is always no you need to use IMAP.

I use Thunderbird my new computer has the newest version recently 'restored' via MOZBack from my current box.

Is there a real advantage going to an ssl handshake in IMAP?

I gather I can still D/L all my mail to my box but I am wondering if transferring existing mail will be a problem.

I like the way my email works now, will I have to make any usage adjustments?
