    Question on newer AC wifi

    I've been rolling over the thought of getting a laptop w/win 7 Pro ( 8.1 downgrade ) for the rollout of win 10. It's an HP ProBook 450 G2 - 15.6" - Core i7 5500U.
My older Desktop is win 7 Pro 32 bit and according to another thread I posted about it, I doubt that it will make the transition. So I was thinking about getting the laptop to see if I even want to make the switch to 10 on my newer Desktop computer.
Besides, the laptop I have wouldn't even make it to win 7 because there were no drivers from HP to upgrade it.

My current router is Linksys WRT54G and the wireless controller on the HP laptop is "Wireless Controller: Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260".
Will that be backward compatible to a/b/g and connect to my router?
    Thanks for any responses.

According to "IEEE WLAN standard" section in the product brief at Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 you should be OK.
