    Worthwhile motherboard upgrade?

I am wondering if I would find it worthwhile to upgrade from a Biostar TA970 motherboard to a 990FX motherboards. I have a FX8350 (not presently overclocked as motherboard wasn't stable when I tried) and 16GB G.Skill Ares 1866MHz RAM which will only run at 1600MHz on this motherboard. I have been living with this for about a year. Would I really benefit by a modest overclock as I use a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus air cooler, and would the difference in RAM speed be appreciable.
    Thanks,
    henderrob

It's hard to say without knowing what other components you have and what you use the PC for, gaming, work etc.
IMO the greatest speed increase for a modern PC is using an SSD for your operating system.

    cheers, Paul

Video is handled by the 7790.
You have an SSD, or two.
I can't see where a new board will make any significant difference.

    cheers, Paul

    Hi Paul,
I emailed G.Skill about my ARES 1866 16 GB using 1600 only and they suggested that I boost the NB voltage. So I did by .150 and now I have 1866 RAM. I also did a minor OC on my 8350 to 4400 with a boost of .160 voltage and now have a stable oc of 4400 and 1866 MHz RAM so I think I'll stay with the Biostar TA970 until I can someday afford and H99 with an Intel i7- 5820 upgrade. Maybe only in My dreams.
    Thx

Mostly mental satisfaction. I finally get what I paid for. I don't game but I do notice a quickening in the start time and opening programs.
    Thx again,
