Upgrading

Edited by jwoodard on 27-Dec-01 04:17.
A friend asked for help upgrading from Win 95 to Win 98. When she tried to do it, she got a message saying that her version of Win 95 was not upgadable to Win 98. What's that about? At this point I don't have any more information than that (i.e. specific version of Win 95). Are there generally problems with upgrading?

    I now have learned her Win 95 is 4.00 950 b.

    Re: Upgrading

Are you sure that error message was about Win95 version, not about Win98 Installation CD version?
When you try to upgrade from Win98 CD Full Version, you have similar message prompting you to obtain Win98 Upgrade CD. I don't remember is it the same problem with Win98 Second Edition.

    Re: Upgrading

If her hardware can handle it, she is better off upgrading to Win XP Home Edition.

Win 2000 and Win XP are so much more reliable than the Win 9x versions, I'd skip Win 98.
