    win 8 firewall

The firewall on ny laptop has been shut down and I cannot get access to turn it on.
I tried to use the Action Center tools to no avail.
I cannot gain access as administrator.
    Any suggestions
    Thanks Doug

Is this a third-party firewall, or the built-in Windows firewall?

    Are there any error messages?

Have you made any recent changes to your system?

Given the lack of information to go on, I would suggest using System Restore to roll back to a point before it happened.

    1. Boot into Safe Mode.

    2. Select the newest restore point before the issue and run the System Restore.

    3. When System Restore restarts your system, boot "again" into Safe Mode to let it finish.

I have seen security software interfere with System Restore completing when booting into "normal" Windows.

It is possible you have a virus - people click yes to any old message.

    cheers, Paul
