Secuirty and Other Update Repeatedly Fail to Install

I have two updates in my queue: Security Update (KB3063858) and Update (KB3068708). When they're done, it reports one succeeded and one failed. There's an error code 80070057 which doesn't seem to exist except in Microsoft's imagination. I can find nothing anywhere which can explain either what's going on or how to fix it. Microsoft troubleshooter has been about as useful as a solid lead life jacket. Any suggestions for getting this fixed?

You could try running the M$ FixIt at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

Error code x80070057 is a legitimate error.

Do an online search for windows update error x80070057

You might also try the following...

    1. Open a Command Prompt (Run as Administrator).

    2. Type: cd %windir% and press enter.

    3. Type: net stop wuauserv and press enter.

    4. Type: ren softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.old and press enter.

    5. Type: net start wuauserv and press enter.

    6. Type: Exit and press enter.

    7. Try installing the updates once again.

Any updates that you have previously hidden will need to be hidden again.

Tried that. It reported no problems and 3063858 still failed, even when I logged in as admin.

Susan Bradley recommended putting that update, and 3057839 on hold in her June 11th WS Newsletter article.

    3057839 06-09 Windows kernel Wait
    3063858 06-09 Windows kernel Wait

A quick web search shows others are having problems as well.

Susan may have an update in the 6/25 Newsletter.

I hid the issue and the system has quit bothering me with it. I'll check tomorrow's newsletter. Thank you all.

Kernel updates can be particularly sensitive to third party security software. Which anti-virus solution are you running?
