    Is Windows 10 Really Free?

    I just saw this http://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonke...rtner=yahootix and wonder if MS is going to pull a fast one on the people who update. MS has been touting free forever.

    Short answer - yes - if you have the proper "nag updates" installed, etc. But are you willing to take one of the first units off of the assembly line, with no spare tire, and no can of fix-a-flat? You will download the non-Pro version of Win 10 and have no disk. Even if I wanted Win 10, that's not the way I would do it. Just my 2 .

    That's what I've heard - that MS will download a version that will not be the Professional or better version of Win10. Also heard that non-pro Win10 will not give you the ability to pick and choose what Windows updates and patches you want (if that matters to you). It does to me. Again this is just what I've been reading.

    It depends on what you have now:

    What version of Windows 10 will I get when I upgrade?

    Free as in beer if you have an acceptable Win7 or Win8.1 OS.

    The Upgrade path for W7 SP1 & W8.1 to W10 is:

    Versions
    Starter & Home -----> Home
    Pro -----> Pro

    W10 Home -----> Pro About $100

    Licenses
    OEM ---> OEM
    Retail ---> Retail

    Following the Upgrade one is not left high & dry as will have the ISO and can make bootable media (DVD, USB) from that for future 'safety net'.

    And to answer the title query... Yes, it is, if one already owns W7 SP1 or W8.1 and does an Upgrade installation by 28/7/16 and for that machine only til death do you part.
