Question Can anyone shed some light on this animation issue?

My IT knowledge is really poor and I have a laptop which isnít connected to the internet. All .GIF files transferred to this machine open as a simple graphic file only (without any animation); however when these .GIFís are opened on my other machine (which is connected to the internet)í the files do have animation.
What Iíd like to know how/what enables .GIFís to display their animation content?
Is it simply by installing Ďa particular Adobe packageí, or is internet connection a necessity or is it something else altogether?

GIFs can appear to be automated, but it's just a series of GIFs displayed in succession.

    cheers, Paul
