Manual bkup of some folders don't work

I'm the owner, the only user and Administrator of my DELL laptop (Win8.1 PRO 64bits)
I need to format the HD, re-install the OS and bkup all my personal data and some programs to an external HD (1Tb) before formatting.
When I try the manual bkup of some of the folders I want to save, I get msgs telling me that I need Administrator permission/privileges to do so.
Why, if I'm already the administrator?
I don't know nothing about tweaking permissions and privileges,

I will appreciate any help that makes me solve this problem, the sooner the better.
    Cheers,
    Flores

That is standard Windows behaviour for system folders that you should not need to access.

I use a 3rd party backup utility and make an image of my computer. I can then "mount" that image and copy any files I require - very useful when I re-installed Firefox recently.
And there is program setting backup either via Windows Easy Transfer or a 3rd party app.
