Question about a WIN 10 issue

I'm one of those who is of no hurry whatsoever to upgrade, it will be very costly, cos if and when I do, it's minimum 3 computers, and I have not done the research too deeply whether these 3 PC's hardware will support a major shift.

But I am concerned about something that is really really bothersome, but want to touch base.

I have read recently, when Win 10 is finally "settled" and all done and dusted, MS has implemented the forced updates, as in, there is no longer a choice to turn updates on or off etc.

I'd like to know, is this the accepted norm now ?
Is this something that if one has an opinion, it's frowned upon and a "get with the times" look ?
Can we no longer have a choice, if one does not want an update patch, ( except security issues of course), then we are to accept this or become an "outsider looking in" ?

What's the go here, what's the play now so not to be ignored if one has an opinion ? Will it be noted by the minority, or are the masses too large in numbers for anyone to give a hoot ?

Cos, I don't really like, personally to be "forced" to do all that much anyway when there is a cost involved on all this IT stuff.

I was really annoyed the other day when my mobile phone customer care rang me, and I was sold on a new phone, it arrived today and it's still in the box. I had to upgrade or my 3G phone's signal will be phased out, so fair enough, I was sold one of these gizmos I have no use for any of it except to make a simple telephone call and a text message. I do not neeed FB and all that nose-dive-twisted-neck-hunch-back in the making crap. ( I demand my own grown up adult off-springs lately, "leave ya stupid phones in the car when you come to see us and talk" ! "Oh but daaaad, so and so is blah blah, look at these wonderful photos of ".......
    "ahhhh, I don't care !!",
lol drives me nuts in a nice way though.

But due to the forces of technological "advancement", many are left with no choice.

I am I even allowed to say all this ?

A bit of a rant every so often is well within accepted norms here.

For Win10 Home there is no choice about updates. You must accept them.

For Win10 Pro it is unclear about update choices for individuals. Microsoft has said Win10 Pro will be serviced by Windows Update for Business and there will be considerably more leeway with updates. HOWEVER, there has not been a definitive statement I have seen whether WU for Business is available to all Win10 Pro installs or just those in a business (primarily domain joined). That remains to be seen in the coming weeks and months as Microsoft says.

I think we'll all be on the Slow Ring by default and from an article I read, the updates when we get them will be a month old, but I also don't like the idea of enforced updates given MS's history - but at least month old updates should even allow MS to get it right.

I hope one of them will be to make Edge a bit quicker - still prefer IE and using it and I think Win 10's Start menu is crap.

Oh - anyone know what the mic icon looks like and where can I find it to enable Cortana - I need to use an external mic.

Don't mean to hijack the thread

No not all, all welcome to speak on my threads, not a problem, it's our basic right to say things nice and constructive.

I am blessed and content with COMODO'S version of browser. I am not sure of the in's and outs, but just feel a bit more at ease with some tweaking they patch something up, where full chrome has it's little beedy eyes on the masses to. I have to have IE installed for VBA dynamic web queries, but that's about it.
The ads/pop ups and all this extra stuff I never use just goes away or it's not there distracting.

But yeah, seeing that there are alternative OS's out there, with some degree dysfunctions from time to time, never the less it gets sorted, I'm surprised MS let themselves somewhat deluded or underestimating
how intrusion, or forced intrusion may force some to alternative options.

My ideal brand spanking new MS OS, is likened to a brand new production stock racing car,
    allow me to explain;
A well known car manufacturer ( take your pick, not starting "this car this car that" lol), makes GT or limited edition sports pack production cars.
Then a race team may buy a few and modify to the point where there is not much left of what came out the production line, but still functional, very functional. Out goes the air/cond, windows, all the eye candy, power this and power that, modified to suit one purpose, to go fast and remain within the edge of safety zones, ( real or imagined) to suit a skilled race driver.

That's what I like to do with a MS OS, remove ALL the bits and pieces I don't need.
I tried removing all the games one time I think it was XP, long time ago, went to registry and ripped out this and ripped out that, went to folders and did the same, and it all came back again ! Yet I seldom use any of it.
That's my ideal OS, buy it and have full option what one wants and not wants, yet still have the propriety trademark and support.

The only ripping out I used to do was to get rid of the bloat on an OEM machine with a 3rd party uninstaller, but now the recovery partitions are gone and merged into one larger C:

During the set up of Win 10 I opted out of most of the spying bits and sharing my Internet with anyone, but it seems slow going to get anywhere in Win 10 which seemed much more quicker from the Start button in Win 7.

Maybe maybe not I got 2 free unsed phones from ATT when they tried this. The old Razor was still working when I ported it to my smart phone via Google voice

Maybe you should enable the real english language - American English.

See if this helps with Cortana:
Press the Windows key and type “Speech”, then select the Speech Settings option.
From here, just tick the box titled “Use speech patterns for non-native speakers of this language”.
    Select UK

    Still showing as not supported.

I thought that this upgrade was too easy
