Upgrade XP/Vista to Win 10 Via OEM Win 7 for FREE?

I've been searching unsuccessfully for an answer to this question for weeks. I have a 64 bit XP machine (also a Vista machine) that I'd like to upgrade to Win 10. The school solution is to go out and purchase a $100-$120 retail version of Win 10 BUT what if I first upgrade to an OEM version of Win 7 or 8, which I see available for around $70. Can I then further upgrade to Win 10 for free and save a bunch of bucks? Thanks for your help!

If your hardware supports it, yes.

Maybe look into a non OEM and Pro version with the same thought in mind. I am getting a W7 Ultimate Retail for about 1 bill from ebay.. I Hope

Just because you don't know where you are going doesn't mean any road will get you there.
