Media Creation Tool fails. Any work around?

My laptop was upgraded to Windows 10 two days ago but my desktop has not received the green light yet. I was reading that if you downloaded the Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's web site that it had an option that would allow up to upgrade your PC or create an ISO install disk. I downloaded the app on my laptop and created an ISO disk as a backup in case I need to do a clean install on that platform but when I tried to run the app on my desktop it brings up the UAC prompt asking if I want to run this program and when I click Yes, nothing happens.

I read some thread somewhere that if you're having problems with this app you need to do a selective startup where you don't run any startups and you disable all of the services and after restarting, I tried this and after restarting my PC running the Media Creation app again failed to do anything .

If I run Windows Update it says I have no updates pending but it was interesting that every time I've run the Media Creation Tool it puts an entry in my update log that says the update failed. The fact is the upgrade has not failed in the normal sense only the Media Creation Tool failed.

Has anyone seen this and if so has anyone been able to determine what is wrong and how to fix it? My concern is that I have a reservation for the upgrade but that too might fail so I'd like to get my desktop upgraded to Windows 10 asap. Any help would be appreciated.

An alternative might be to download the corresponding .esd Windows version file for build 10240 RTM (from SoftPedia) and decrypt that with the downloaded esd decrpyter script into a working ISO.

If I am understanding your post correctly, you created the media but did not use it - is that correct?

The media you created can be used for the upgrade. Just open it from within Windows and click setup.exe.

I'll try to be brief here as I wanted to make an update to this post. It turned out that although my PC did not have any corrupted system files, my PC had a lot of corrupt settings and configurations. It ran well for me but when I went to upgrade to Windows 10 I could not install Win 10 from Windows Update and when I tried to run the install from the Media Creation Tool, it would not load on my PC. I tried to do the install from a DVD created from the ISO file I downloaded on another PC but that too failed. I eventually called Microsoft and a 2nd level support Tech took 2 days to get my PC back in shape. Interestingly enough he used a tool called Windows Repair that he downloaded and installed from www.tweaking.com. When he launched the utility there were many check boxes on the left side of the app and he checked about everything except the ones that were Windows 8.x specific. Once the repair finished and we rebooted I was able then to use the installation DVD that previously would not load. Since this tool worked so well for me and was used by the Microsoft Tech I thought I would get the word out if someone else is having similar issues that I had.

I had to be in an Admin account to make the tool work, standard user is no good.
