WinXP and Office 97 Help Needed

I performed a clean install of WindowsXP Pro and then installed Office 97
with SR-1 and SR-2. No problems with the installation. However when in
Office 97 I perform a file open or file save, the dialog window takes
forever. It says it is searching. Eventually it populates the window. Is
there anything I can do to speed this up? It was not this slow under Win98 SE. Thanks.

I removed Fast Find, but when I perform a File Open in Word, the window dialog still says it is 'Searching...'. How can I stop this?

In Word, when you open Options from Tools menu and click File Locations tab, where your Document folder location is? Is it correct?

Yes, the location is correct. If I navigate to another folder after the initial folder opens and gets populated, the same delay and message that it is searching appears.

Re: WinXP and Office 97 Help Needed

I discovered one thing that was causing the slow response. It was the Palm Hotsync applet sitting in my system tray. Once it was closed, my problem went away. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>
