change it to a garbage account

I had a duplicate Facebook account that I had never used. I went through the steps to delete it a few times and it woudn't go away. So I edited the profile: changed the name to random letters and changed the email to one I never use.

As I understand it, you can't actually delete an account, you merely "de-activate it", the idea being that you MIGHT want to come back to it one day(!)

Deactivating the account will not delete it.

At one time, you could delete the account yourself. Now you have to contact FB to get rid of it completely. Here is the info:

There is an option to deactivate your account. It can be permanently or deactivate for some time only...it's your choice.

You can deactivate the account but that doesn't delete it. See my prior post on this.
