Easy Duplicate Finder "Free" Download in WinDeals newsletter is a semi-SCAM

The latest WinDeals newsletter from Windows Secrets offers WebMinds' Easy Duplicate Finder free download.

The app will scan your computer (or any folder you choose) and locate duplicate files. However, when i checked reviews online they all say the same thing. The app will only remove a handful of duplicates files for free. To remove more you have to pay them $40. There's no mention of this on the webpage where you download the app. That's deceptive to say the least!

Find and delete duplicate files in seconds with Easy Duplicate Finder™!
Speed up your computer and free up disk space by deleting duplicate files. You can recover gigabytes of space, make your computer faster, and organize your files. Run an instant scan and find all the duplicates on your PC or Mac!
    Get your free system scan!
I've run into a number of useful-sounding programs with a similar statement on their sites such as the one above for EDF. I have an issue with the term "Free Download" as not always meaning free to use forever, also quite misleading. The free scans are just that, scans. They are not the program needed to complete the task unless paying for it. I use EDF and it does a good job once the settings are made to suit the job. I never use the search on file names but on most everything else because 2 or more files can have different names [by at least one character] but have identical content.

Yes, Windows Secrets has an "extra" newsletter which is really just a flyer for a piece of software (or maybe hardware) that they send out every 2 to 4 weeks. Over the past year or so i think i took advantage of one offer they sent, but darned if i can remember which one. Just went to the Windows Secrets subscription/settings page but i don't see the WinDeals newsletter mentioned there at all. Hmm ....

Anyway, her's some screenshots. First two are the body of the email flyer/newsletter. Third one is self explanatory.

The Yes/No options for WinDeals (weekly) seem to be on a separate preferences page: WinDeals e-mail preferences

I failed in my first three attempts from within the forum's editing feature:

So I had to step outside of that box and figure out an alt. method. The one that eventually worked was deleting the file from the server via methods that are normally only available to Admin and above - so don't tell Rui or Joe...

Now this "software" is being reported as leading to an unsafe Web site.
I try to click on the ads once in a while to support the site, keep the advertisers hooked in, see details, but I get this from the Nov. 5 newsletter:

    reported unsafe.jpg

I realize there's false positives, and malicious reporting by of these things. But Penton or whoever runs this site needs to look at who they're taking money from. Lately, with the paid subscribers only, it seems like just a money grab. I don't need to get a virus or in some mailing list from trying to help by looking at your ads.
