    Failed Win 10 upgrade

I found I had a number of failures, error 80240020 . So I deleted that download folder some have mentioned and run the exe file to restart the update and it downloaded the upgrade again. This time it's failed with error C1900208. Searching for this implies it's AV causing it - but I have Windows Defender, so is that likely? If it is then do I just switch Defender off? And what do I do then?

It could be Defender. You may disable it if you want. Try the update again after disable defender.

It's VERY highly unlikely to have anything to do with Windows Defender.

Make an ISO out of the .ESD file and try the install in a more conventional way.

Make certain you have a backup of the current system, and also make certain that your current system is in good
working order with no drive or other system related errors.
Run a check disk as well as the sfc /scannow.

    DRIVE IMAGING
Invest a little time and energy in a well thought out BACKUP regimen and you will have minimal down time, and headache.

Build your own system; get everything you want and nothing you don't.
    Latest Build:
    ASUS X99 Deluxe, Core i7-5960X, Corsair Hydro H100i, Plextor M6e 256GB M.2 SSD, Corsair DOMINATOR Platinum 32GB DDR4@2666, W8.1 64 bit,
EVGA GTX980, Seasonic PLATINUM-1000W PSU, MountainMods U2-UFO Case, and 7 other internal drives.

Been away flying in a Tiger Moth today. Back now.

I've run Tweaking's window repair (twice) but it wipes out the update history. I'll wait to see if the next attempt succeeds. I have updated it and also imaged it, however it's my old PC so not a disaster if it doesn't work.

If it doesn't, I'll try the ISO method.

I should've listened to you Clint - it didn't work even with MDef off. So I went down the ISO route, which I had thought looked too complicated. But it was simple and I've got a pristine Win 10 PC now.

I will be looking at it in more detail tomorrow; it takes a lot out of you to pilot a Tiger Moth for the first time. And I did my first two loops as well - not me driving though!
