That's it, it's ALL OVER, Goodbye XP- Good riddance MS. done deal

Just a while ago, I was doing one of my regular searches and what do I see ?

An ad, or a video thing with a freaky looking monster from hell with the words

    CORTANA IS LISTENING

Hmm, yeah ok, so she has infiltrated my XP and all the other stuff.

Well, that's it, game is over.
All 4 of my computers are getting wiped, checked by my techie and if there is any legacy BS, it's getting dumped after I flame it with a metho bonfire.

Then, all Linux, pure and simple from scratch

That's it, no more, get lost MS, ya done a number on me and many others this time. "Gloves are off".

My user name in good time, will be no more, maybe.

But no, not going top put up with this BS, no way, no

"CORTANA IS LISTENING", yeah riiight, and to insult me and my grandkids with some alian looking freak...

Just to be clear, are you posting that Cortana was installed on your XP computer with out your approval, perhaps from a critical update?

What scan tools did you use to determine that and how did you remove it?

Yeah, that's actually part of the beauty of XP...Cortana is stone cold, deaf and blind. It also means not being able to use OneNote free but I guess I'm not much of a note-taker anyway.

If I had a user name like that, I wouldn't give up so quickly! Sounds like it's just a stupid ad.

It's too late. They are everywhere. They own patents relevant to Linux, too. Your only chance is to go back to the good ole typewriter.

Indeed, with a name like that one would/should be impervious to even a hint of social engineering by now.

    Thats ok,
Migrated, got MINT and the XPs are being phased out, 4 of them. 4 Computers

Understandably the Excel project is ongoing, so 1 XP box remains till whenever, the 5th.

I make no apologies, there is no way I really need anything past XP and Office 2010.
It's the policy of MS to force this upon users of the internet if they want to keep using propriety software with the trade-off being personal data infiltration.
I don't mind paying for my XP OEM and Office 2010, all paid for.
But not this, Subscription in a cloud ?
My work in a cloud ?
    Nope
    <grin>

There is a lot more to be thank full for to, and hope to keep learning Excel VBA for what it
supposed to do with and for my project.

    Thanks WS,

PS, yes it was an ad, don't see the point of "it".
However, if the technology helps keeps us safe from....stuff, national security etc, OK.
That's a different story, none of my business though.
So I'm happy where I am, MINT and whatever happens next.
    CORTANA the Guardian angel ?
    Ha!

I don't see the point of 'it" either, but I'm not configured to see ads in Win 7 or Puppy Linux.

With Win 7, I'm supposed to be updated with critical updates till 2020, so I don't see the need to immediately
experiment with a new version of Windows that's probably got more unfound bugs than what I'm already using.
I was privileged to update several Win 7 computers ( purchased late ) to Win 8 and was glad I passed on the offers.
I have things I need to do with my computers and free time spent debugging/configuring them is not on my to do list.
I suspect that what I'm using now is actually more secure as Win 10 is new and it's bugs and weaknesses are yet to be discovered.

Thank goodness there are options other than being forced to upgrade to Win 10.
I also have Mint installed in VirtualBox and it's pretty easy to adapt to, imo.
This post is from a computer booting from a live CD, Puppy Linux. Every boot is malware clean. Sweet.
