    mrstub.exe on ext hd--Safe?

    I found this file on my ext hard drive. is it safe?
    Google yields different results.

    It could be a part of the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, downloaded as part of Windows Update, upload it to https://www.virustotal.com/ to check it, copy the link back here for us to study the results. please?

    Replying to a forum notification would get swallowed/rejected by the server.

    All we need to see is the results page from the Virustotal scans.

    Thanks. The previous analysis (8 months ago) indicates that it's a genuine MS Malicious Software Removal Tool version, I'd say that during that period you had the external drive connected while running Windows Update and that the file was doing what it should - checking the drive for a number of possible infections/malware.
