Voice activated Cortana recognizes my husband's voice, but not mine

It does not matter if I am set up to recognize just my voice or all voices, Cortana will not activate unless I click on the Mic button. It does activate when my husband talks. This happens, or doesn't happen, on his computer and mine. I tried talking in a lower voice, but that does not work either. We both have Dell desktops. I cannot find any type of setting that applies to my problem.

If I click on the mic button it works fine.

Any suggestions on what the problem is?

    Thanks,
    Phyllis

    Try this:

Click on the Cortana button. Click on Notebook and then settings. Turn on "Hey Cortana" and then whichever voice setting you wish.

I have tried just my voice and then all voices. When I train my voice it indicates that my voice is fine, however then I try to activate the voice it does not work. I have tried it on my husband's computer also, and it does not work there either.

Is your account a standard user or a member of the administrative group?

Is this a Microsoft account or a local account?

As far as I know it is a Microsoft account. I use my Microsoft Live log in.

Do you have the most current audio drivers?

Can you try with a local account?

When I logged in with a local account I had to start the Microsoft network as part of using Cortana. I figured it would be too time consuming to switch between network and local.

At least on my desktop without the wireless headphones I am now able to get Cortana to talk to me. She does not seem to care that I am from the Midwest, she want her name pronounced with two short 'a' sounds. I have not tried this with my lap top, but at this point I am happy!

    Thanks for all the ideas.
    Phyllis
