can't update without starting Win 10?

I'm trying to install a number of updates for Win 8.1, but every time I try, Win 10 starts first. I want to wait to install Win 10, I don't want it right now. How do I accomplish this? I even came across one screen where I clicked on 'Hide Update' for Win 10, but obviously it didn't work.

I'm not having that issue. I just installed 9 updates for 8.1 and 2 for IE 11. No offer of 10. I don't have Windows 10 "Reserved"; that might be something to consider.
