Error when searching for updates to Win8.1
I'm pulling maintenance on my granddaughter's Asus Windows 8.1 laptop. Eventually, I'll upgrade it to Win10, but that can wait. Right now, all I want is to make sure she has all the Windows updates she needs. We gave her this computer in March. Imagine my dismay when I see this error message on the Windows Update windowó
Most recent check: Never!
Error code: 80244019
My search has turned up some discussions around that error code. Some experts have advised checking for a virus. I've run the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool; I've scanned the machine with Avira AV; I've run Malwarebytes and CCleaner. I've found no trace of a virus. I've rebooted the machine repeatedly, but nothing changes.
Today, I clicked to search for updates and got a fairly long list of routine updates. I chose to install them one at a time, and that first one seemed to install with no problem. But then I clicked again to search for updates, and this error popped up ... again.
