"Cannot Display the Webpage" in IE

trying to get a Gateway GT5408 running Vist to function for my gradeschooler.
have all updates installed, but from homepage Google, trying to open the search, i get the Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

i am not a computer wiz, but would appreciate any advice or help.

Did it work before all the updates were applied?

Have you tried resetting IE to defaults? To reset IE - click on Settings (the gear icon), then Internet Options, then the Advanced tab, then the Reset button at the bottom.

Can you get any web pages? Try the web page of your router.
Open the browser and type this in the address bar: http://192.168.0.1

    cheers, Paul

Sounds like your network connection isn't correct.
Can you run this command on a computer that doesn't work and post the results?
    Select Start > Run.
    Type this: %comspec% /c ipconfig /all > %temp%\ip.txt & notepad %temp%\ip.txt

    cheers, Paul

Type it exactly like Paul put it there -- spaces, special characters, and all.

You didn't answer Joe's question as to whether it worked prior to the updates, in which case you could try the restore points if it did - but can you run a command prompt as an admin and enter -

    netsh winsock reset catalog

    netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

    ipconfig /flushdns

    exit

    Now reboot.

    Your router address is http://192.168.254.254
Enter that in your browser and you should see the router config page. Once you have that page you can check the router status to see if it is connected to your ISP.

Right click on the Command Prompt icon and select Run as Administrator. You are now elevated.

    cheers, Paul

Try admin for the username, and leave the password blank.
