    More on lithium-ion-battery longevity

    By Fred Langa

After reading a recent Top Story, a subscriber wonders whether he should leave his lithium battery–equipped laptop plugged in all the time. Plus: Upgrading to Win10 using an .iso file or flash drive, a dual-boot setup goes disastrously wrong, and overcoming more driver glitches in a Win10 upgrade.

The full text of this column is posted at windowssecrets.com/langalist-plus/more-on-lithium-ion-battery-longevity/ (paid content, opens in a new window/tab).

In you last column, you talked about creating a Window 10 ISO or DVD.

As I understand, the Win 10 free upgrade is good only until July 2016. If I create an ISO image or DVD of the upgrade, can I hold off until after that date and still install the free upgrade in later 2016 or later?

No. But you may be able to upgrade now, rollback to 7/8, then reinstall 10 after July 2016. See Other common questions about Win10 upgrading in today's newsletter.

Just because you don't know where you are going doesn't mean any road will get you there.

There's no logical reason it wouldn't work, but no one can confirm until after July 2016.
