    Switch from Ubuntu to Windows?

I have an ASUS laptop that was Win 8 to start with and was trashed. I put in another hard drive and formatted to Ubuntu. Now I can not change or reformat back to Windows. I have tried dvd of win 7, 8 and tech preview of 10 and then tried thumb drive for Win 10 (which would not boot). It is UEFI and Ubuntu appears to control the bios. Any thoughts?

Changing from Linux takes a bit of work. What I'd do, and have done, is boot to a GPARTED LiveCD and delete all partitions then boot to the Windows disc to install on the bare drive which will create the necessary partitions during the process. But I found this:

Thanks, the wikihow article is about formatting to Win XP which was before UEFI replaced the BIOS. I did not think about GPARTED to partition. Will try that next.
