Excel 2010 The clipboard cannot be emptied. Another program might be using the clipboard.

Suddenly I started getting this error message whenever I drag a cell to copy.
I googled this problem and one suggestion was to open the Snipping tool and in Options uncheck the box that says always copy snips to the clipboard. That didn't solve the problem.. I also stopped Skype from loading in startup, but no help. /anyone have any suggestions?

    Tech,

I had googled it also and have found other suggestions that you did not mention. You said that you stopped Skype at startup but did you disable the Skype add-ons in IE under Tools > Manage add-ons or update to the latest version?

Take a look here regarding the Bing desktop:

    Maud,
Thanks for replying. I uninstalled Skype and Bing Desktop, but the problem did not go away. Looks like a tough one!

    Tech,

Uninstalling Skype may not have removed the Skype add-ons in IE. Have you checked?

    Maud,
Sorry, I forgot to mention I did check the add-ons in IE and no Skype Add-on was there.

Did you install anything between the time it worked and when it stopped?

You could create your own clipboard cleaner as I have in Win 7.

Right click in a blank area on the Desktop and select New/Shortcut

In the box type cmd.exe /c echo off | clip - Next - then type Clipboard Cleaner - Finish

Right click on the icon and select Properties - Change Icon

Clear the top box and type %SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll then click on OK

While you can select any icon you want, scrolling along will eventually bring you to a clipboard.

Click on that - Apply - OK and when you double click on it on the Desktop you will get a brief black window flash and the Clipboard will be cleared.
