Import Utility for Win2k Server for adding users

We are setting up a thin client lab at aschool that is using a Windows 2000 Server. We have about 600 users to setup on the server with usernames and passwords. Is there an import utlity to add names all at once?

Thanks,

Thanks. It helps in understanding how win 2000 is setup. However, we are not migrating from NT, just installing the win2000 server. Can I use the admt tools to add new users?

Thanks.

Sorry, I didn't understand your question. You used the word "import" that mislead me. You must add users from your Administrator account, using Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Computer Management utility. If permissions for some groups of your users must be different from pre-installed ones, you must create your custom groups first. Then you must create user accounts, unfortunately, one by one, assigning each of them to appropriate group(s) or setting individual permissions and passwords (the last is not necessary if you choose "User must change password..." option). The procedure is the same as on Win2k Pro. I know, it's a pain in the rear end to type names and click different buttons 600 times, but there is no other way to do it.

A quick search throws up UserManagemeNT Import fairly consistently - but at US$1,700 for 500-1,00 users it doesn't come cheap.

Re: Import Utility for Win2k Server for adding users

Hi,
If you want to import a list of users into Win2000 Active Directory, there are two utilities available: LDIFDE and CSVDE. The latter is possibly more useful as it will allow you to import from a comma-separated variable file (e.g. created in Excel) but you do need to have the file in the right layout first.
There is also the Active Directory Script Interface which will allow you to programmatically interact with the Active Directory.
I hope that's of some help.

Thanks for all of your help. We were able to use the csvde to import the users. I appreciate the help.
