A minor 'nice to have' perhaps?

Not earth-shattering by any means, but is there any chance of having a copy of the the 'Main Index - Search - Controls -' etc bar at the *bottom* of a thread as well as the top?

When I finish with a board I am invariably at the bottom of the thread I've just read and either have to (1) scroll back up to the top (quite a way on some threads!) or (2) click the 'up one' button, then Main Index or Controls when that page loads ... As I said, certainly not earth-shattering, but it would be nice ...

    Just a thought! Many thanks

I think this was discussed originally but decided against simply on the grounds of the extra load time and space it would need.

However, there is the Jump-To-Main-Index icon at the bottom. . . .

Re: A minor 'nice to have' perhaps?

Was it? Sorry, I didn't know.

Regarding the jump to Main Index button at the bottom, yes, I know about it, but I usually work through the Control Panel, and there isn't one for that! Maybe a Control Panel one could be put there??!!

Otherwise, I've only just noticed the 'Top' button next to the Main Index one at the bottom (I know, I must be blind ...) so maybe that would save me scrolling all the way up, at least ...

Yes - I see your point. An equivalent single icon to jump to your CP could be useful.

And as for scrolling, don't forget your Home and End keys which will take you from top to bottom of a thread in the blink of a lizard's eye.

Hey - so they do! And I think of myself as a keyboard rather than mouse person, too (as I imagine most fast typists do). How embarrassing that I hadn't realised!

Many thanks for putting me back on the right lines, Leif!

    Hi Beryl

There is also a favourites icon in the footer. Click it and it will return you to control panel.

So it does - it wouldn't have occurred to me to use that to get back - how come it knows the Control Panel is my 'favourite' - or does it just add number of visits to each place and make an inspired guess?!

Good luck with your new 'job', by the way - and a Happy New Year!

Because Control panel is where your 'Favourites' (the forums you have marked as being your favourites) are listed!

Yes, I had the same experience not so long ago - although I'm glad to say I found I could remember most combinations, there were a few things that caused the air to turn a bit blue around my desk until I worked them out!

    >And I think of myself as a keyboard rather than mouse person,

And so you are. And a rather nice one, too. The Lounge interface, on the other hand (hah!), is not as keyboard-friendly as, say, an MSOffice application. I too find myself using the mouse more than would I normally.

Some Windows applications seem to have been designed to be "clicked", and a consequence of this is that when I (and you?) enter the Lounge, our mind tells us to don the mouse clothing, because dressed as keyboarders we'll not fit in too well.

(2 seconds later) I checked again. My Tab key takes me everywhere on this screen, so in theory I can keyboard the life outta myself. There are, however, no hot-key underlined letters, so it's time-consuming to Tab to the PostIt button, he typed, reaching for the Mouse .....

... and on my 1024x768 screen, I have tabbed right past the PostIt button without seeing it, for it lies below the bottom edge of the monitor, and I don't know how to nake Netscape scroll down a page, so that I can see which button is highlighted, so, back to the (shudder) mouse .....

    >about time someone came up with a telepathic way of doing it, to save their voices!

This will happen before you know it.

I have written a short essay on the use of chips (embedded in the skull) which serve as telephones. I believe that all the technology is in place to have a telephone mounted in the head, wired to the brain. Start to imagine being able to receive a call without anyone knowing it (no more fumbling in ye olde purse for ye olde celle phone) and being able to dial out without fumbling etc. Imagine being able to construct a four-or-five way conference call by purely mental means. Imagine being able to transfer factual knowledge in an "unattended" mode - "Beam up to me the 1,200 page book while I'm driving to London. I'll read it once I get there". Or watching a streaming video while sitting in the Dentisit's chair. Mentally turning the system off ("Don't alert me from now until 7 a.m.") or being steered around San Diego by someone who knows the streets. The mind, as they say, boggles.

Very true - I've noticed the only time I use the keyboard in the Lounge is to type the content of posts! But that's OK, because thinking about it, I find I'm quite happy as long I am using *either* the keyboard *or* the mouse (with preference to the keyboard, of course) - it's when you have to keep moving from one to the other and back again it gets irritating!

Notice we've got a keyboard smilie - - but no mouse equivalent?! (that I've noticed ...)

Why does a person who looks like a cat not consider themself as a mouse person?

Did you know you can already do that? I saw a page advertising a viewer that you wear like goggles and from inside it, apparently, it's like watching a 40" screen showing the film in your DVD player - in fact, a distraction while the dentist works was one of the specific uses for it mentioned. I haven't got the link here at work, but I'll post it tonight from home!

Not controlled mentally, of course - but I'm sure they're working on it!
