W10 IE11 Flash player update dead in the water [KB3087040]

I kept trying to install this Flash update for IE 11 on win 10 today but it's not going anywhere and it looks like there are many with the same problem. Another MS screwup in the W10 updating program.

I got the same error but a manual download/install seems to have worked OK:

Have you tried downloading it from the MS Update Catalog ? https://catalog.update.microsoft.com...px?q=kb3087040

I've never downloaded anything from here before so I don't know the procedure.

Yup, the manual D/L works. It's just that it shouldn't be necessary. Thanks Bruce

Thanks Sudo15, Yes I have D/L from the catalog site before and it's pretty easy also.

Just checked for updates and it proceeded to install but it failed to install for me as well. Thanks for the direct link Bruce; it works.

It seems this update KB3087040, which fixes 23 vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash player for IE11 and Edge, may be failing for all Windows 10 systems:

Fix for Flash Player Security Update install failure on Windows 10 (at WindowsITPro)

(So 100 million devices are getting the same error message?: Unbelievable!)

The manual download worked for me on Windows 10 RTM (10240) but not on Insider Preview (10547).

Windows 10 deployment/downloads seem to have been removed from KB3087040.

Yeah, it has been removed for Win 10 but there are D/L's for all flavors of Win 8. Makes me wonder if we should have D/L'ed it at all for Win 10?
    Another MS update debacle

Perhaps another reason to enable system restore on Win 10 which is disabled by default.

SR is enabled on my Win 10 but I assume that it can also be uninstalled if necessary. So far I have noticed no problems with it.
All of those "Fails" sure take up a lot of room in the view Updates log before I installed it.

Has anyone checked the flash player version in IE11? On mine it still shows version 18 installed and it will not let me install version 19. The message says flash is imbedded in WIN10 and no need to update.
Chrome on the other hand shows version 19 installed.
I wonder if this could be part of the problem.

    @bwc: RTM (10240) or IP (10547)?

@All: Here's a challenge; How does one ascertain the Flash version for Edge (without checking IE)?

P.S. Woody says, "Somebody at Microsoft should have tested the patch before releasing it..."; that would be rather revolutionary, wouldn't it?

I am on the RTM. I also looked around Edge and could not find anything. I was using the flash player home page to check my version.
I used the link you provided to install and now it shows version 19.
I was under the impression that this was a security patch not a upgrade to flash.

Good answer. I should have thought of that. There doesn't seem to be any way to check Flash version from Edge, Control Panel or Settings.

Glad it worked for you. Flash updates for various browsers on different platforms have become far too complicated.

    It's both.

Since I don't use EDGE at all after first trying it, I'm not certain I care
My win 7 computers already updated to flash 19 also with no intervention from me.
