    Formatting Word 2010 Page Numbers

I have a 15-page document with footers. When I set up the footers, I inserted the page numbers in the -1-, -2- format, which is what I prefer for footers.

Then I inserted some bookmarks, with several cross references to them throughout the document. Unfortunately, the cross references showed the page numbers in the -1- format. "See the table on Page -1-" isn't a great way to say it, especially if the numbers at the bottom of the page don't have the dashes.

So I changed the page number format to remove the dashes. That worked on the footers, but the cross references still have the dashes. This continues even after I close and reopen the document.

Who can tell me how to fix this?

Cross References are fields so you may need to update the fields to remove the dashes from the cross-refs.

You can add the dashes as hard coded text (not part of the pagenum field) so they still appear the same way in the footers.
