    Setup questions

    First:

If I am setting up Outlook 2010, and just follow the defaults, the data files are placed in the Documents\Outlook folder. This was started some time back as I recall, with prior versions of Outlook placing the data folders in C:\Users\%Yser%\AppData\Microsoft\Outlook.

Many of the setup files and info though, still seem to reside at the "old" location, and are pretty critical to backing up and/or restoring Outlook.

Does it matter if I have the pst/ost files in one location or the other?

    And then, secondly:

If I set up my Exchange account first, other addresses I add (such as GMail) are added to the same profile. If, though, I set up GMail (for instance) first, and then the Exchange account, the Exchange account sets itself up in a separate profile.

Is there a reason for this?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

The scenario described suggests Exchange wants to either be 'top dog' or if it can't be it will play by itself.

Where you put the PST doesn't matter as long as you have write access and backup it up regularly. OST files are the same minus the backup requirement.

    cheers, Paul

Berton, truly. I "tripped" across this because one day I set up a "non-Exchange" account first because I was "in a hurry." After that, I couldn't get Exchange to be installed into that profile, and had to start over or have two profiles.

    Grumpy Exchange!
