Waking up my laptop from sleep

I often use my laptop as a desktop. So the power settings are to do nothing when I close the lid. And the mouse properties say allow it to wake up the computer.

When it's plugged into an external USB keyboard and mouse, and an external monitor, it goes to sleep after 30 minutes (as it's supposed to), but it refuses to wake up to anything but opening the lid. I don't want to open the lid. I just want to twiddle the mouse or tap a key on the keyboard, but nothing works except opening the lid, which I then have to close again.

Any ideas for power or HID settings which would resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

It sounds to me like your laptop isn't actually going to sleep, it's off. In this context Hibernate means Off too, so the laptop is powering down to either a full Shutdown or a Hibernate mode.

    Could that be it?

Or it turns off the external devices when it sleeps, so opening the lid is the only cue it has that you want to use it.

    cheers, Paul
